We’ve gathered a comprehensive list of the largest anime conventions and conferences that have taken place around the world for your convenience.
Figures, cosplay, and even writing all have a place in the anime fan’s heart. In addition to being the largest anime convention globally, Anime Expo in Los Angeles is also one of the most popular.
Nevertheless, what is the country’s performance when compared to the rest of the world?
Across Europe and Asia, there are similar-sized events. And Japan is home to a number of the world’s largest.
The Anime Expo:
The only American anime event, Anime Expo, takes place in Los Angeles. More than a million anime conventions lovers have flocked to the event throughout the weekend. Anyone and everyone who is enthralled by one of their favorite television series is eligible to participate.
Anime directors, producers, and artists from Japan will be in attendance. That’s even larger than the ones in other countries. Panels on otaku culture are available in addition to the cosplay, dealer’s room, and artist alley excursions. You may get to meet some of your favorite voice actors.
Anime Expo has a distinct flavor:
The “Entertainment Hall” at Anime Expo is a massive space for special events. If you’re looking for a specific item, Anime Expo is the place to go. There is an anime music video (AMV) theatre in the area. Additionally, there was a maid cafe, a masquerade competition, and a late-night comedy showdown.
Wonder Festival boasts a more significant number of exhibitors, even though it is smaller. You’ll likely be able to locate a wide variety of anime conventions merchandise in the United States.
This one-floor spectacle includes picture ops, video games, tabletop games, a live band, and cosplay classes. All the usual convention events are here, but they’ve been cranked up to eleven.
Spain’s manga city of Barcelona:
Over 150,000 people attended Spain’s largest anime conference, Manga Barcelona, last year.
The following is noteworthy:
Activities for children are available in the Manga Kids section. The World Cosplay Summit’s Spanish preliminary rounds are conducted here, and other cosplay and karaoke competitions. Otaquiz allows anime enthusiasts to put their knowledge to the test.
This is a Halloween Cosplay Festival:
The cosplay in the Ikebukuro district is entirely free to see. The event’s parent business, Niconico, provides a live webcast of the whole event for those who cannot attend in person. We’ve made some changes to this event to make it the most accessible event on our calendar possible.
The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival is held two weeks before the Animate Girls Festival in Japan. One or more of the venues may look familiar to attendees from anime, such as Durarara!! Or Tokyo Ghoul.
There will be live music, a cosplay runway, and other cosplay attractions at this public cosplay event. But if you want to dress up or picture someone else, you’ll have to pay.
In addition to the Ikebukuro Cosplay Festival, there is something unique about this event:
It is the country’s largest anime-themed Halloween event. In Japan, Halloween has become a popular holiday. There is nothing wrong with adding a little cosplay to the celebrations.
As with the Animate Girls’ Festival, festival-goers will be able to roam around the city at their leisure all day. Only this time, if you’re just there to have some fun, the official events are free.
Audience members are encouraged to participate in staged cosplay activities if they’re dressed to impress. One of the few anime conventions that do not focus solely on merchandise sales is this one. It’s a great con if you don’t go to conventions to spend money.
What a Wonder!
The largest convention in Japan is the Wonder Festival, usually referred to as Wonfes. Manufacturers of official anime figures, such as Max Factory and Good Smile Company, will also be in attendance.
Fans of popular anime are welcome here to build their figurines and models of anime characters and monsters. Many independent artists come each year to sell their garage kits, which are also known as garage kits in the art community.
This year’s Wonder Festival has something unique to offer:
Figures manufactured by all the artists are meticulously constructed from scratch at home. Artist alleys fill up the majority of this event. Chiba prefecture hosts the Wonder Festival in Japan.
By showcasing works-in-progress at their booth, official manufacturers can demonstrate the progress of their new items. Many anime events are held in Chiba, including Tokyo Disneyland. For those who like to gather or buy gifts in advance, this is a terrific method to do it.
Girls’ Festival of Animate Girls:
They are designed for ladies and young ladies of all ages to enjoy. All the merchandise sold at this event will feature “bishounen,” or attractive lads, making it ideal for “bishounen” aficionados. Ikebukuro, Tokyo’s Ikebukuro area, has an annual anime festival for female anime fans.
To display your devotion for your favorite character by adding miniature plushies or keychains, as well as buttons. Teabags, one of the newest fashion statements for otaku girls, may be found here as well. It is possible to personalize these translucent backpacks.
The Animation Girls’ Festival has something unique to offer: Ikebukuro is located in the heart of Tokyo. Anime Expo is one of the rare events that cater primarily to female anime conventions enthusiasts (otaku).
When the Animate Girls Festival is over, you’ll be free to explore the rest of Tokyo. Big-name manufacturers fill the entire space. It occupies four separate structures. As a result, it’s run by one of the most prominent anime stores.
The Asian Anime Festival:
By a wide margin, Anime Festival Asia is the world’s largest anime conventions. C3, which stands for Character, Culture, and Content, is behind the event. As much as three times a year, the event takes place across Asia.
Anime musical guests, industry and fan work celebrities, and spectacular cosplay events are all common at this event. Over 1.5 million individuals have watched the film thus far, which is a record for the company.
The Anime Festival Asia has a unique feature:
Red carpet events for voice actors, anime artists, and cosplay celebrities are expected at the festival. The most anticipated anime premieres are held here first and foremost. During notable anniversaries, this event will feature a variety of limited-edition goods.
Festival of comics in Malaysia, Comic Fiesta It is home to Malaysia’s largest amateur creative market. Comic Fiesta is the largest anime convention in Southeast Asia. In 2019, there will be 65,000 attendees. Additionally, there were several comic, music, and animation industry luminaries in attendance.
This is a one-of-a-kind occasion:
The Creative Art Market at Comic Fiesta features more than 100 booths for aspiring artists to display their work and sell their self-published comics.
Live painting demonstrations and portfolio critiques are available during Comic Fiesta. In addition to the main event, Comic Fiesta hosts two smaller anime conventions. This is not a one-time occurrence.
