If the world of manga and anime seems incomprehensible or unavailable to you, we have prepared this article for you! Let’s start with the fact that the word “manga” means Japanese comics and “anime” means Japanese animated films.
Both forms are characterized by a wealth of subspecies and aesthetics unusual for Europeans. No wonder – after all, manga and anime come from Japan, a country beyond our culture. Getting to know the culture and traditions of such distant countries is, however, a great opportunity for our times. Therefore, it is worth using it and learning as much as possible about others.
Manga and Anime Land
Among the Adventurers’ camps for many years you will find holidays for fans of Japanese art. This year, for young people, we have prepared In the Land of Manga and Anime by the Sea and a whole series of Japanese and Asian camps in the mountains, in Poronin: Asian Camps.
Every year, manga and anime camps and winter camps are very popular among young people and their parents. Thanks to this, we can boast of an experienced and committed staff of educators. These are people who have been going to camps with us for years and have managed to get to know many of our participants.
However, between the summer and winter holidays, we keep in touch on Facebook, thanks to our profile Camps of Asian Adventurers, which has over seven thousand fans. On the profile, you will find interesting facts from the world of manga, anime, Japanese and Korean culture, and k-pop. A group integrating our participants was also created: Asia and lovers of the Orient.
Manga, Or Japanese Comic Book
The Japanese art of creating paintings that fit into stories has hundreds of years of tradition. The manga we know today appeared in Japan at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It developed mainly in the 1960s when manga artists (mangas) were inspired by the works of Walt Disney studio. Today, manga is a recognized art in Japan, taught, among others, by Kyoto Seika University. The value of the Japanese manga market alone has long exceeded $ 5 billion!
The most important thing to know about manga is that the Japanese comic book is for everyone – including all ages. Of course, comics are also created in Europe and the USA not only for children and teenagers. Still, this form of entertainment is considered rather “childish”. Meanwhile, it is completely different in Japan!
Everyone reads manga in Japan. Hence, its division into species is so important. On the manga shelf, you will find fairy tales for toddlers, comics for boys and girls, items for teenagers, and those for adults. Depending on the target audience, manga tells different stories and puts accents elsewhere.
Typical manga for boys are usually stories about robots, athletes, and warriors. Meanwhile, those (traditionally) intended for girls focus more on the emotions of the heroes and heroines, their mutual relations, and vicissitudes. Stories for older youth often touch upon important topics such as tolerance, love and friendship, and respect for the Earth’s natural resources. Finally, there is the manga for adults – often bloody and violent.
It’s like Hollywood movies – they also have their genres. Everyone knows that it is worth going to Disney or Pixar movies with the whole family, to take your other half to a romantic comedy, and to go to horror movies with a group of adult friends. The key here is common sense and vigilance. Just as not all movies are suitable for children, not all manga will be appropriate for a 10-year-old or 15-year-old.
