6 best comics

Watchmen By Alan Moore And Dave Gibbons (1986)

The top places in the charts of the best comics of all time are often frequented by this absolute masterpiece. The only comic included by  Time Magazine in the list of the greatest Anglo-Saxon masterpieces of the 20th century. Superheroes exist, they have the fate of the world in their hands. But who controls them?

V For Vendetta By Alan Moore And David Lloyd (1982)

Placing two works by the same author at the top of the ranking may suggest a biased judgment. After a serious examination of conscience, I believe that this is not the case! The grandeur of these masterpieces is immense and they fully deserve their place in the ranking. An England went mad shortly. A totalitarian regime. The fear of citizens leads them to renounce civil rights. Impossible to understand how current it is without reading it.

The Return Of The Dark Knight By Frank Miller (1986)

An incredibly powerful story. Frank Miller transports us to the future of Batman, in what DC calls Elseworld or an alternative future but which page after page becomes more and more credible. Batman is a human superhero. Human beings age. Gotham society degenerates. The difference between the Dark Knight stories written before and after The Return is obvious. No author remained indifferent to this influence.

Sandman By Neil Gaiman And Several Different Designers (1989)

Sandman is an incredibly ambitious comic: 75 numbers for a comic completely outside the superhero schemes, a work divided into acts that have changed the way of relating to the DC universe. In continuity, moreover! Dream, Morpheus, Sandman are the names of one of the Eternals, seven entities almost as old as a creation that manage as many aspects of existence.

The stories intersect with the folklore of every existing people, with Greek literature, the works of Shakespeare, and the normal comic universe of DC comics. The result is a moving beauty.

Arkham Asylum: A Mad Mansion In A Mad World By Grant Morrison And Dave Mckean (1989)

Watchmen tried to give an extremely realistic reading of what could happen if superheroes existed. The Return of the Dark Knight formulated a timely hypothesis of the development of Batman’s life without further suspension of disbelief than the acceptance of the existence of superheroes. Arkham Asylum looks the other way. It is a treatise on psychology. Symbolism, ancestral fears, and the awareness that after all Batman is only the least violent madman among those who inhabit Gotham.

Elektra Assassin By Bill Sienkiewicz And Frank Miller (1986)

From the first to the fifth place of this ranking there are comics published (or at least concluded) by DC Comics, which are today integrated into the Vertigo label. Marvel’s answer for mature readers was the Epic division. Although it didn’t have the same absolute masterpieces and in the same quantity, something really good has seen the light. Elektra Assassin is perhaps the most visually powerful comics.

Painted with watercolors and with a combination of texts and images that made it declare not suitable for the seal of the Comics Code Authority. Elektra is a killer ninja designed by Frank Miller for Daredevil, with a history of family dramas that have ruined her personality until she is hospitalised. Arkham Asylum probably wouldn’t have been born without this comic.-6 Best Comics
